Krisiun (Ljubljana - Metelkova - 03.10.02)
Written by: Klemen Polimac

There are many reasons why I am so late with this report (which was written already the second day after the show), but what the heck... here it is.

Ljubljana, October 3rd 2002. On their European tour Vader, Krisiun, Decapitated and Prejudice also stopped by in my hometown Ljubljana, Slovenia. Unfortunately Vader didn't play that night because Doc fucked up his ribs (the night before they played in Zagreb, Croatia and it was great, I heard), but on the other hand they played here numerous times so...

The SHOW was opened by Supremacy, our band and while they played the crowd began to gather. These youngsters play one helluva aggressive and powerful death metal. I came a bit late so I missed some songs, but it was a fair performance, though the vocalist didn't jump up and down, acting all crazy as he usually does. It seems that they will become our best brutal death band, since the mighty Necrosed (R.I.P.) are no longer active and Abattoir are just soooo lazy...

Anyway, after Supremacy the stage was taken by German death metal act, Prejudice. Honestly speaking, their performance didn't convince me. And neither did their music. They were kinda brutal, but also with some "nu-metal" riffs or whatever the fuck that was. It just didn't plunge me INTO their music; no grip. End of story.

But then... Decapitated. I was really looking forward to finally see them, since their SHOW got cancelled a year before on tour with Immolation, Deranged and Destroyer 666 (well, so did Destroyer's, but that's another story). And it was perfect, a blast! The sound was good, they were great, the crowd was raging... just perfect. And on top of all that, 2 great covers for the end, first one being "Suffer The Children" (perhaps even better than Napalm Death does it) and the other one "Sothis", for all the Vader freaks and those who never saw or heard them before. Brutal, yet technical death metal, filled with energy and fast as hell. I think they showed everyone that age is not important if you have heart in the right place. Hough!

And so the honour of the headliners fell INTO Krisiun's arms and the crazy trio FROM Sao Paulo did it with perfection. I could see that some people couldn't believe their eyes and were just standing there with eyes wide open while Max had his solo-destruction-part on drums. Human drum machine by the name of Max Kolesne. I guess all the people that had never seen Krisiun before were enjoying tremendously, but the sound wasn't too good. Moyses' guitar was too high pitched and at times (especially at one solo) my ears were suffering badly. You really have to see them in some place with a good sound system and not a shit hole like this one was if you want to really enjoy their maximum aggression.
But still, they were great (as always), slaying, hatching and spilling sweat. Perhaps just too extreme and fast for some, but for us old fart, gooooodie.
They played mostly songs FROM the last two albums ("Conquerors Of Armageddon" and "Ageless Venomous") and of course those Slayer inspired FROM "Apocalyptic Revelation", but unfortunately none FROM their debut "Black Force Domain". As Alex told me later on, they still play some songs FROM that album FROM time to time, but it depends on the crowd and it's reaction. Right now they have 4 new tracks ready and when they'll get back FROM tour (they already did, it was 45 dates altogether - Poli) they will start working on new material. They plan to enter studio in March.
One thing is already certain. New album will crush! All I wish is that the drum-production will be better than it was the last time on Conquerors... They are not too fond of it either as you could read in our interview with Alex FROM X-mass Festival in Vienna, Austria in December 2001 (this year I interviewed Erik Rutan of Hate Eternal).

Hail Krisiun!!
