Nazareth (Graz - Orpheum - 11.12.02)
Written by: Milan Krušič

Show began at 8:15pm with "When The Lights Come Down". It is more than obvious that these old bastards are still very much alive. A pure professional performance without one mistake. They are perfectly tuned in. And when they stroke with unmistakable Razamanaz, all the old rockers in the hall finally got the opportunity to stretch their lazy bones after a long time. They slow things down a bit with "Miss Misery", that was followed by Malice In Wonderland track "Holiday", just another great hit of this band. After "Holiday" we participated the biggest ballad in a world of rock'n'roll, "Dream On". A complete silence swallowed the hall, even all the cellar mice that are living in Orpheum's hall got frightened for a few moments. Dan sang "Dream On" with the same passion and tenderness as he did in his career. The things got harder with "Bad Bad Boy" and "Danger Danger" that is originally performed by Frankie Miller.

Of course the band just couldn't effort themselves to left "My White Bicycle" out of their set list. Dan explained to the crowd, that this song was written in Amsterdam under influence of different substances (use your imagination here). "Hair Of The Dog" - Dan performed fantastic and unforgetable solo here, showing how skillful he is with his bagpipe. The main part of the concert ended with "This Flight Tonight", originally written by Joni Mitchell and brilliantly covered by Nazareth. The band returned to perform encore. First of two songs was Clapton's "Cocaine", wooooow what a feel!!! Gig finished at 9:55pm with band's biggest hit "Love Hurts", featuring Dan on vocals with his unique and unforgetable soulful approach.

Concert was a pure school of hard rock at its best. Dan McCafferty (vocals) and Pete Agnew (bas) are original band's members. Pete's son Lee joined the band on drums. And the rest of the band are Jim Murrison (guitar) and well experienced Ronnie Leahy, who worked in his past with legend Alvin Lee (album Pump Iron, 1975). So after all this years, this band is still fresh on stage and very alive. As if thirty years of being on a music scene were yesterday.

This time the organizers were mercyfull. This was the first time in Orpheum that we weren't tortured by some local support acts on stage.

After we waited in front of a backstage for some autographs, Pete came around and we got opportunity to talk a few words with him.

We asked him also if he remembers a gig in Ljubljana at 1985.
And Pete replied: "Aw, yes I remember it very well. I'm gonna tell you what happened there before the concert. The organizer told us that the lights will be turned on during the gig. Shit man, this is ridiculous. You can't do that. But organizer explained that during the last SHOW three women were raped and one man slaughtered. So we were up to cancel our gig. But due to the fact that the concert was sold out, we made an agreement. The lights were turned on just in the back rows of the hall. Otherwise, this gig was one of my favorites".
Well, then one fellow came over and asked Pete on a very unpleasant way: "Will you give me a pick!!??"
Pete: "Please, have a little patience. I'm talking right now with these fans here!"
Obviously guy didn't understand very well and went straight to the point: "When!!???"
Pete turned to us and showed some signs of frustrations: "These young bastards, they want everything immediately!"
