Cannibal Corpse (Ljubljana - Metelkova - 20.04.03)
Written by: Klemen Polimac

Oh man! So many people gurgling in sucha tiny hall... haven't seen in quite some time. Good news! Obviously the young metalheads started checking the shows out. And in quite impressive numbers. Especially for a place like Gala Hala where everything was at. We were sweating like pigs which were dogged through the jungle to finally fall into the lungs of Hell (as GD so nicely have put it). : ) Anyway, great show! Great turn out. Good sound. Paaaaarty in one word!

Since there were so many people outside the hall, waiting to get tickets, I missed the first act. Our rising death metal youngsters Supremacy. I saw them already couple of times so I didn't bother too much (but be sure to check them out if you get the chance). And then the only bad news that night. Myrkskog got cancelled. Thing was that they couldn't get in time from the place where they played night before and to Ljubljana and then to the next gig or something like that. Shit happens I guess... And I was so much looking forward to finally witness their Norwegian sheer clinical brutality. Well, some other time.

But Rachel and co. were not called off. Hell yeah! Finally... mighty Sinister before my eyes. I was waiting to see them for so long.... maaaan!! And they shredded. From beginning to the end. Rachel was barking as a hellhound, guitars were spitting fire and Aad was smashing the drum-kit like battery of houwitsers. They played songs from all albums, songs like Cross The Styx and Corridors To The Abyss, Sadistic Intent, To Mega Therion (CF cover from allmighty "Hate" album) were on the menu and all the sweats from the newer albums aswell ("newer" as songs from the last 3 albums after Mike's departure). Great set! Only that it didn't last long enough. But who cares, just that I got to hear tracks from "Hate" live made it worthy. And Rachel was perfect. You must witness her vocal exhortation in a live set! She'll blow you away. And a great chick on top.

And then the headliners... Cannibal Corpse. Though I didn't expect much since all their shows in last few years felt more or less the same (in my eyes at least, their gigs from like '96 when George got into the band were much better), but this night they proved once again that they are one of the best live bands in the scene. They've blasted us away! And though it was hot and moist they played whole set. George even said that this place is more hot than Brasil while gasping for air and immersing litres of water into his dehydrated trunk.
They also played some songs that haven't been dissected live in a long time, like The Pick-Axe Murders (wheeeew and I lost my head). Front rows were banging like crazy, there were insane mosh-pits, stage divings... I mean, you could feel the air was electrified and there was this magical atmosphere. It reminded me on those early shows when I was a teen. Magical night! Hopefully there will be more nights like this in the future.
