Unpure (Ljubljana - Orto - 25.02.02)
Written by: Klemen Polimac

At first I wasn't going to write this report, so I came a little late to the show and realised that I've already missed the first group Torka, aswell as all my friends did. Later I heard that they play this primal/rough kind of black metal, so they would be worth checking out... but next time. All the best to you guys!

Magus Noctum was the second name on the bill that night. Them and Torka are coming from Slovenia. I've seen them for couple times now, so I can say that they're getting better with every show (they don't stand there as logs anymore). But still, they are not really my cup of tea. Keyboards that they're using are way too "easy" for my taste, almost infant-like. But public seemed to like them so I would say that they will make a good live band someday and I hope to hear some of their recordings soon. Till now they have released a demo "After Many Aeons", which I haven't heard yet.

And then the moment we were all waiting for. Watain (wearing corpsepaints) came on stage and blew us away with their show. These Swedes sound almost like a Darkthrone incarnation from their finest days, so expect nothing but the finest Scandinavian primal, full of energy, rough black metal. Their show was perfect and I would say that they have convinced all the sceptics, who haven't heard them before. Public went nuts. We were even into a special treat that night - a Darkthrone cover In The Shadow Of The Horns from their second and for many best album, "A Blaze In The Northern Sky". Even though I am more of a "Under A Funeral Moon" fan, I enjoyed it. Hey, it's fuckin' Darkthrone! :)

The last band that night, also from Sweden- Unpure, wasn't so hot. I don't know if you could really call them headliners. Their show was nothing spectacular and neither was their music. And besides, they played a very short set (less than half an hour). Maybe they realized that they suck, or it wasn't the right day, or the right public... I mean, their music wasn't all that bad and I wasn't really disappointed coz I wasn't expecting much from them in the first place, but after seeing Watain, who needs something like Unpure, right?

Anyway, it was a fine night if we take "noise issues" out of consideration (sound more or less sucked). Watain were a blast and I am really sorry that I've missed Torka. I wasn't expecting so much people that night, so that was a surprise aswell. Either black metal is getting popular again (which I seriously doubt) or that was a magic night. And it was a fuckin' Monday!?
Thanks goes to Setan Dumovski (or Doomovski for our English friends if you like) for the free entry.
